It takes between 20 and 30 minutes, and involves the use of light sedation while the deflated balloon is placed in your stomach. The balloon is then inflated using saline to ensure complete safety, until it reaches roughly the size of a grapefruit.
Once filled, the balloon will sit in your stomach until the end of your initial six-month period. When the balloon is ready to be removed, you’ll be given a light sedative once more, and the balloon will be gently deflated and removed from your stomach without any surgery.
Because both the placement and removal procedures do not require surgery, there is no recovery time. You simply wait until the sedative has worn off and can go about your regular activities the same day.
